Graves
When you die, your items go into a grave at the death location instead of scattering on the ground.
Right-click your grave within 15 minutes to recover the items together.
Recovering your items
- Return to where you died. Check the death message in chat or use
/graveto find the location. - Right-click the grave, or tap it on Bedrock Edition. Hitting it also works.
- Your items and dropped experience are returned.
- Items return to their previous slots, including armor, offhand, and hotbar. If a slot is occupied, another empty slot is used. Anything that still does not fit drops at your feet.
- Only the grave’s owner can collect its contents. Other players cannot take them.
- Graves cannot be broken.
What goes into a grave
- All items that would drop on death, including shulker boxes and their contents
- The amount of experience that would drop on death, which is not all of your saved experience
If a Substitute Charm from the admin shop activates, the 14 protected slots stay with you. The remaining items and dropped experience go into the grave.
Where graves appear
A grave appears where you died.
- If you die in midair, it appears on the ground directly below.
- If you fall into the void, it appears on the highest block directly above that location. If there is no block, it appears at that world’s spawn point.
After 15 minutes
The grave disappears and its contents drop where it stood, just as they would without a grave.
The dropped items despawn over time like ordinary dropped items. They are also cleared during the daily 04:00 JST backup.
- The 15-minute timer keeps running while the server is stopped, including for maintenance.
- If you are online when the grave expires, you receive a chat notification.
Checking the location and time remaining
Use /grave to display your grave’s world, coordinates, and time remaining. If you have several graves, all are listed.
The owner’s name and time remaining also appear above each grave.
Java and Bedrock appearance
| Edition | What you see |
|---|---|
| Java Edition | A gravestone, the owner’s name, and time remaining |
| Bedrock Edition | Only the owner’s name and time remaining; the gravestone model is not visible |
On Bedrock, tap near the text to recover your items.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| You cannot find the grave | Check the world and coordinates with /grave. If nothing is listed, it has already been collected or has expired. |
| Right-clicking does not collect it | Check the name above the grave to make sure it is yours. |
| The grave expired and dropped its contents | Collect the items promptly, before they despawn. |
